The Alliance for Living and Dying Well

The Alliance for Living and Dying Well (ALDW) is a collaboration of Santa Barbara leaders and agencies who are committed to creating and sustaining high quality end of life care for our community members. Our efforts focus on the importance of knowing and communicating with family, friends and health care providers, your values and preferences regarding the kind of health care you desire if you cannot speak for yourself.

ALDW is working to ease these sometimes difficult conversations. We hold workshops, trainings and community events that support individuals and families in having these very important advance care planning conversations and in completing meaningful advance health care directives. We seek to elevate quality of end of life care throughout the community. Finally, we aim to replace the taboos and negativity surrounding death with acceptance and a peaceful embrace of this inextricable part of life. We believe that living with a clear recognition of our own mortality can infuse our existence with greater compassion and meaning.

Here's how you can take advantage of what ALDW has to offer:

  • Attend a community workshop to learn about having the conversation and completing your Advance Health Care Directive (AHCD).
  • Receive one-on-one support in completing your AHCD
  • Find out about hosting an Advance Care Planning event in your community.
  • Go to our annual film festival.
  • Join our e-mail list for periodic news of upcoming events.

Members of the Alliance for Living and Dying Well include the Archstone Foundation, Cottage Health, Hospice of Santa Barbara, James S. Bower Foundation, Sansum Clinic, Sarah House Santa Barbara, St. Francis Foundation ,Visiting Nurse and & Hospice Care, and representation of retirement communities and clergy.
